The island of Hispaniola has a unique existence in the Western
Hemisphere. Located North of Jamaica, East of Cuba, West of Puerto
Rico and South of the United States, Hispaniola holds the two sovereign
states of Haiti and Dominican Republic. The Symposium Committee
sees this island as the perfect fit to explore because it holds a rich and
divergent history, thus offering a vast dimension for research in areas of
economics, politics, history and sociology. “Condenados a convivir”,
the two countries have been in a constant state of forced cooperation
and coexistence with eras of animosity and strife.
The Committee has approached panelists from a variety of different
fields and areas of interest. Past Symposiums have had speakers and
panelists from the High Commissioner of Venezuela, to the esteemed
authors.
